For years racers have reduced the weight of their gearboxes by gun-drilling finished mainshafts -- a slow, expensive and, for transmissions with small diameter pilots that must be relieved at the output end, modest savings. 'Muncie' designs, with their large diameter pilots and hefty body can be relieved from the pilot end for much greater gains -- we trim almost two pounds -- and, as our mainshafts are gun-drilled in manufacturing, we can offer lightened mainshafts for only a few dollars more than our regular production.
Furthermore, gun-drilling under the 2nd and 3rd gear journals allows heat to exit through the bore, so those critical surfaces can run cooler.
And finally, because all our mainshafts are now cut by Masiero Asia, we can offer the same Italian quality at a Chinese price -- lower than our old price, even for the lightened versions:

AUTO GEAR COMPANY, INC. of Syracuse, New York is pleased to announce 'large flange' maindrive retainers for General Motors Muncie and T10 four-speeds.
According to the manufacturer, "More powerful engines require stronger clutches and for years muscle car owners have turned to GM's inexpensive light truck clutch housings to cover them; to fill the gap between the 4.685" flange diameter of the automotive retainer and the 5.125" bore diameter of the truck clutch housing -- essential for proper shifting -- expensive spacer rings have been machined and screwed in place. Now retainers designed and manufactured for the larger bore are available ready to install.
And since replacing a worn out retainer is a common part of a rebuild, owners can step up to a larger bell for almost no additional cost."

AUTO GEAR COMPANY, INC. of Syracuse, New York is pleased to announce their latest alternative gearset for General Motor's iconic Muncie four-speed. The 'M22Z' (ratios 2.984/2.043/1.468/1.000) was designed to provide 'cruisers' an alternative to expensive overdrives. According to the company's Chief Engineer, George Sollish, "Now Muncie drivers can have the highway rpms of a fast axle without changing their gearbox. In addition, when paired with a 3.08 axle the M22Z gearset provides the same 1/2 punch of our successful M22W/3.54 combo, so there's no embarassment leaving a light, either. And like all our gearsets, the M22Z can be used in original equipment cases. We're also looking at older Jeeps -- they've used Muncies for years but have never had the 2.98 low we offer before now."
